Behind Every Meal is a Neighbor
Al, a father of three, first discovered the food distribution at Redan High School simply by passing by and hasn’t forgotten the impact it’s had since.
Living on a fixed income while raising his children, he says, access to food has made a real difference in managing monthly expenses.
“The extra help alleviates a lot of bills,” he explained.
Dekalb County’s food insecurity rate sits at 14%, meaning 1 in 7 neighbors is impacted. “By having this food, it goes a long way; my gas probably would be off.” Despite facing challenges of his own, including an injury that left his arm paralyzed, Al continues to provide for his family through his small tree business.
With the school’s summer distributions, Al and his family will have food to stay nourished.
“I don’t know what I’d do without the Food Bank. You all have been helping people for a long time.”
