Supporting the Atlanta Community Food Bank has become a meaningful tradition for Michiel, a dedicated donor, and his family. What first stood out to him was just how far his contribution could go. Learning how many people in the community face food insecurity was another moment that stayed with him.

“I was a little surprised by how far the donation can go,” he shared, noting that while “$1 is $1,” the Food Bank can multiply each dollar’s impact far beyond what he could do alone.

During their volunteer shift, the family was also moved by seeing how much food can be rescued and redistributed that otherwise may go to waste.

“It was sort of an eye-opener how much food and items are being tossed out that can be reused,” Michiel said. “Supporting the Food Bank,” he added, “is a way to create impact on multiple levels.”

What impacted him most was learning how widespread food insecurity is—especially among children. “It’s much higher than what I had expected,” he said. That realization inspired Michiel to bring his children to volunteer, hoping they would better understand the importance of helping others and giving back.

“It’s just very refreshing and nice to see how involved and engaged everyone was during our shift,” he said. The family plans to continue volunteering and making an impact. “Being part of that effort made me feel part of a bigger community.”

Whether through a donation, volunteering, or both, Michiel encourages others to join the effort to end hunger and make a difference close to home.
