Taste of the NFLTaste of the NFL “Kick Hunger Challenge”
Now – Sunday, Feb 5, 2012
Our team may not be playing on Feb 5th but they can be the champions of the “Kick Hunger Challenge.”   Taste of the NFL and the General Mills Foundation are challenging all football fans to show their team spirit and help raise enough money to fund 1.2 million meals nationally.  We need your help to insure a  portion of those meals and donations are directed to the needs of our local community.  Donate any amount ($10+) in the name of the Atlanta Falcons and 100% of that donation will be given to the Atlanta Community Food Bank to help fight hunger.  Since 1992, the Taste of the NFL has rallied the country's top chefs, the NFL's greatest,  and people like you to raise money in support of food banks throughout the country.  Kevin Rathbun, our top chef, is leading the charge here in Atlanta.  Visit www.tasteofthenfl.com  to donate online and join in Kevin’s efforts to make the Atlanta Falcons and our community #1 in the fight against hunger.

Chinese New Year at Doc Chey’s

Help bring good karma to our community by dining at Doc Chey’s during the 15 days of Chinese New Year.  For each Lucky Chinese New Year Sampler ordered, Doc Chey’s will donate $2 to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.  Includes a trio of foods believed to bring good luck when eaten during Chinese New Year: dumplings for wealth, shrimp rolls for happiness & peanut noodles for longevity.  Doc Chey’s will also be hosting a food drive during this time & donating an additional $1 to ACFB for every $2 worth of canned or boxed goods you bring to the restaurants.  For more info, visit www.doccheys.com.

  

Georgia Legal Food FrenzyLegal Food Frenzy

Food and Fund Drive Happens April 23 – May 4, 2012
Are you a member of Georgia’s legal community? If so, be sure to join in the frenzy to fight hunger! The Office of the Attorney General and the State Bar of Georgia are partnering with the Georgia Food Bank Association to host a statewide Legal Food Frenzy, a food and fund drive competition among all Georgia law firms and organizations. Firms will compete to collect the most food (based on a per person average – attorneys and staff). The law firm or organization that raises the most food will be awarded the prestigious and highly coveted “Attorney General’s Cup.” Sign-up is Feb 1 - April 22, but those who sign up by Feb 29 will get credit for 100 extra poundsfor their firm or organization!  For more information, visit http://galegalfoodfrenzy.org.

Stay tuned for info on the 2012 Stamp Out Hunger food drive.  This food drive takes place on a Saturday in early May.  Simply leave a bag of nonperishable groceries at your mailbox and your letter carrier will pick them up when he or she delivers your mail.  What an easy way to help those in need of food assistance!

Members of Atlanta's Jewish community are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations as part of the annual High Holiday Services Operation Isaiah Food Drive from Rosh Hashanah to the eve of Yom Kippur.  Simply bring food and drop in the special barrels prior to services at participating metro congregations.

25th Annual Food-A-Thon

The Atlanta Apartment Association is gearing up for their 25th annual Food-A-Thon!  Each year, association members spend six months collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars and  pounds of food for ACFB. Every October, they make their special delivery during a parade and block party. If you live in an apartment community, ask your management office for details on how you can participate in this awesome effort!

Enjoy a fabulous evening of live old-time radio re-creations, complete with on-stage sound effects, presented by members of Atlanta's professional acting unions: the Screen Actor's Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and Actors Equity Association. The 2011 celebration of radio's past included such fan favorites as Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and X Minus One with a humorous extraterrestrial tale from the future entitled "Venus Is a Man's World."

CANstruction® combines the competitive spirit of a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed hungry people. Competing teams, lead by architects and engineers, showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned and packaged foods. At the close of the exhibitions all of the food used in the structures is donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Each year, ACFB is excited to team up with the Atlanta Falcons and Publix for a great fall tradition - The FalCan Food Drive!  Fans are encouraged to donate canned food items or make a cash donation to the Food Bank as they enter the Falcons game at designated locations at the Georgia Dome.

 

WordFeast: Food for the Body and Soul 2011

“WordFeast: Food for the Body and Soul” is an annual evening of words, works and performances by prominent authors, playwrights, musicians and spoken-word artists that helps the Food Bank serve those in need during the holidays. Last year’s event featured the talent of author, storyteller, actor, comedian and event emcee Rob Cleveland; Oprah’s Book Club® author, critically acclaimed novelist, poet and playwright Pearl Cleage; author and EDGAR award winning playwright Phillip DePoy; author, playwright, Creative Loafing's 2010 "Best Local Playwright," and GA Voice's "Best Local Writer" Topher Payne; and more! The evening will also feature musician Eric Moore. A reception, meet and greet, and book signing, sponsored by The Real Chow Baby and Charis Books and More, concludes the evening. All proceeds benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
