A Week to Remember

National Volunteer Week may have come and gone, but we’re still buzzing with excitement.

Here at the Food Bank, we simply couldn’t do what we do without volunteers. Last fiscal year, it would have taken 52 full-time staff members to complete the work our volunteers accomplished. So, when given the opportunity to celebrate them, we go all out!

We invited hundreds of volunteers to four separate events recognizing their efforts:  a reception Thursday evening for individual volunteers, a BBQ luncheon on Friday for groups, a breakfast on Saturday for youth, and we topped it off Sunday afternoon with fun and games at Dave & Buster’s for those who dedicated their time this tax season to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Of course, we wanted to make things special, but we also knew we had to keep costs low.  Our amazing community stepped up to the plate. Clear Channel Outdoor donated digital “Thank You, Volunteers!” billboards that went up across metro Atlanta at the beginning of the week. Atlanta Beverage Company printed banners to hang throughout our facility and warehouse.  Food and beverages for the parties were donated by local caterers, including Proof of the Pudding and LowCountry Barbecue.  (We’d also like to give a shout out to those on staff at the Food Bank who served food, welcomed our guests and a performed a multitude of other tasks to make the week run so smoothly.)

Our biggest thanks goes to the thousands of volunteers who helped throughout the year and our most dedicated volunteers who celebrated with us last week. The memories won’t soon be forgotten. Check out some of the wonderful photos that were taken during National Volunteer Week!
