Q: How many volunteers does the Food Bank need?

A: About 15,000 volunteers assist us each year, donating more than 4,400 hours per month.

Q: Can I bring a group?

A: Our volunteer projects can accommodate groups of various sizes and can provide team-building opportunities. We recommend you schedule at least three weeks in advance.

Q: Can children participate?

A: We would love for your family, school or youth group to join us. Volunteering is a great way to teach children about service and spend some quality time with them. All children and youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please see the individual project descriptions for age minimums.

Q: How many adults are needed for children/youth?

A: One adult chaperone is needed for every:

  • Four children ages 10 and under
  • Six children ages 11-13
  • Ten children ages 14-17

Q: What if I need to cancel?

A: Please contact our volunteer coordinator as soon as possible (preferably at least a week in advance), so we can be sure to invite other volunteers to take your place.

Q: What if more people want to come with my group than signed up?

A: Please contact our volunteer coordinator as soon as possible to see if there is room available. We may already be full for that shift, and some or all of you may need to reschedule.

Q: Can I come for just an hour or two?

A: Our projects are designed for specific time periods, so we ask that volunteers commit to the entire shift. For that reason, it's also very important that you arrive on time.

Q: Is the Food Bank able to accommodate the specials needs of a handicapped or disabled person as a volunteer?

A: We work on a situation by situation basis. Please call our volunteer coordinators to inquire about your needs.

Q: Can I use your conference rooms for meeting space before or after our project?

A: The Food Bank offers meeting space for a modest fee, based on availability. When you make your volunteer reservation, let the volunteer coordinator know that you are interested in holding a meeting and you will be connected with our Rooms Reservationist.

Q: Where can I eat nearby?

A: There are lots of restaurants near our main buildings, including Fellini's, Nuevo Laredo Cantina, Papa John's Pizza, Taqueria del Sol, Thelma's Kitchen and The Varsity. For information on these, try going to the Atlanta guide on http://atlanta.citysearch.com/.

Q: How can I complete court-related community service hours?

A: Mandatory service hours are tracked differently than our regular projects. Please contact Erskin Harvey at (404) 419-1730 or erskin.harvey@acfb.org for information on our mandatory service program.
