For the past 8 years, the Atlanta Community Food Bank has been a proud beneficiary of the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program (KPCRW). 2014 marks the 32nd consecutive year for this unique workplace-based fitness program and culminating 5K through downtown Atlanta. It is the largest program of its kind and attracts more than 17,000 runners and walkers from more than 400 corporate and community teams. This high energy event creates an environment complete with camaraderie among co-workers. Teams train to successfully cross the finish line and they also band together in support of the Food Bank.
This year private investment group Greystone Funding Corporation took top honors in the official Corporate Can Collection Contest with an impressive 20,000 pounds. The contest was based on a team’s total donation of both food and funds. The Food Bank converts every dollar donated into four pounds of food and gives a 25% bonus to any team that delivers the food they have collected. Teams are challenged to begin collecting food a month out from the September race and bring in their donations during the week of the 5K run/walk.
“Kaiser’s fitness program and 5K has been an amazing experience for our Atlanta office by bringing together employees, family and friends for a fun afternoon,” explains Charlotte Frye, FHA Closing Administrator and KP team captain. “Philanthropy is the foundation of Greystone’s corporate culture. From the CEO down, we are passionate about giving back to organizations like the Food Bank. Motivated by friendly inter-office competition, our team performed in support of food and fitness!"
The four-time can collection champion, McCart Group, graciously bowed to Greystone Funding this year. Below are the top five teams with the highest donation totals.
