What is Kids In Need?
Parents who struggle to put food on the table may often be challenged to
provide their children with the necessary school supplies. With the firm belief that every child deserves the tools they need for academic achievement, the Atlanta Community Food Bank developed Kids In Need, a year-round free store for educators. The Kids In Need mission is to provide learning supplies for students whose academic success is threatened by poverty.
Teachers are presented with brand new classroom and school supplies in the Kids In Need store--all free of charge.

Who qualifies?
Every year, Kids In Need is proud to distribute hundreds of thousands of pounds of brand new school supplies to teachers in low-income schools. For a school to qualify, at least 80% of the students must be enrolled in the federal free and reduced lunch program. There is absolutely no cost to teachers or schools. The Kids In Need facility is reminiscent of a retail store and is continuously stocked with brand new school and art supplies for grade levels Pre-K through 12.
We currently serve elementary, middle and high schools in Atlanta Public, Clayton County, Cobb County, DeKalb County, Douglas County, Fulton County, Gainesville, Gwinnett County, Hall County, Henry County, Marietta City, and Spalding County school systems.
How Does It Work?
Kids In Need contacts the principals of eligible schools. The principals then inform teachers, who each email Kids In Need and set up a time to “shop” for free school supplies.
Teachers may shop once each semester.
Shopping is by appointment only. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday, 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. There are also some evening and Saturday appointments available.
Volunteers keep our Kids In Need store fully stocked and organized.
