It's no secret that volunteering is a great way for groups to team build or just spend quality time together. ACFB has become known as one of the best places in town for groups to share a worthwhile experience. We welcome a wide variety of groups - from scout troops and civic associations to churches, synagogues, schools and businesses. There are many shift options, including nights and weekends. Training is a breeze, as orientation takes place right before each shift.
Alston & Bird's Cheryl Naja recalls that her firm began their monthly stint with ACFB when one of their partners, Jeff Young, volunteered and encouraged others to join him. She says that one of the ways they recruit new volunteers is to include an article in the firm's online newsletter stating how many pounds of food were packaged. "At the end of a two and a half hour shift, you leave knowing that you are helping people in need," said Naja. "Several of our volunteers have said that after a busy and stressful day, a session at the Food Bank relieves tension. By the time we leave, we are enjoying a chocolate treat and planning our next trip. Just try it - one visit and you will keep coming back, but don't forget to wear closed-toed shoes!"
